The tally of victims resulting from the freight aircraft that caught fire and plummeted has now climbed to 13, as confirmed by latest statements.
Official's Announcement
While en route to the Union’s memorial service, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the aircraft crash,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My prayers is with the relatives, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this recent tragedy. We will get through this collectively.”
Casualties Named
A statement from UPS listed the pilots operating the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our thoughts are extended to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community region – assisting you and making sure you receive the support and resources you need is our main concern,” the company’s statement read.
Inquiry Updates
Government investigators disclosed that the jet’s left wing ignited and an power plant fell off shortly after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to crash and explode into a blaze.
The NTSB has said it is investigating the plane’s upkeep logs, that was in the state for repairs several weeks before the incident.
Flight tracking data indicated the plane was on the ground in that location from early September to last week.
“We are aware that this jet was present in that city,” remarked an investigator on the following day, without providing a precise date range. “We will look at every piece of service that was performed, even the repair time, right up to the date of the trip.”
Retrieval of Vital Items
The pilot’s recorder and information unit were found, and the motor was discovered on the tarmac.
The units – known as data containers – were constructed to withstand collision damage and severe heat from infernos, and they appeared to be undamaged when located amid the remains. Investigators will reviewing information from the black boxes.
Aircraft’s last data recordings indicated an height of that level and a velocity of that speed before the crash.
Maintenance History
According to FAA files dated last month, a crack on a structural piece inside the fuel container demanded fixes.
Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it provides airframe maintenance for the carrier’s jet and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to speak, but said it would work closely when relevant authorities reached out it.
Services Resume
In the meantime, the hub operations restarted last night with its overnight also known as nighttime process, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. Each of the three tarmacs at the airport were also reopened.
The sorting center in this location is the firm’s largest. The center engages over a large number of workers in the locality, manages 300 aircraft each day and processes over 400,000 items per hour.
Community Response
A gathering was organized on the evening of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which supports staff at the aviation hub, the firm’s largest freight center.
Teamsters Local 89, which represents staff, started the vigil with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the estimated hour of the crash previously.
“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the official addressed the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any of those who we have mourned.”
